In this lesson I have been able to fit in many topics. Of course, we cover in great detail the complete long pole form.
Then we move onto learning many exercises that you can do with your partner that relates to the Chi Quan (Chi Sao of the long pole). This is fundamental as we explore different angles, leg positions and body movements that a normal Wing Chun man is not yet accustomed to.
Nevertheless, all this work is highly beneficial. I repeat that if you are not a skilled practitioner, you need to do this slowly. It may seem easy but I’ve worked with guys who are stronger than me and they are usually shocked at how tired and sore their muscles become – so please do not be in a rush. It takes a lot of time to develop the necessary skills, strength, and body elasticity to manage the long pole effectively.
The long pole is a personal passion. I never stop learning from the long pole and I am able to transfer much of the practice and theory into my empty hands applications.
After the Chi Quan then we move onto the final phase which is the Lat Quan – the combat free applications of the long pole.
